Here Shannon Reagan answers some questions and concerns she's heard from those new to the joys of massage therapy. She
also answers some not-so-typical questions about her own techniques and the history of what she does.
Can I have a deep tissue massage and still experience hot stones?
Of course, there's a common misperception that a hot stone massage means a lighter pressure massage. To the contrary, I
like to use hot stones to relax the muscle with warmth, which creating less tension, reducing resistence, and allowing for
even a deeper massage.
Is it safe to get a massage not long after an injury?
Yes, the sooner the better, actually. I would approach an injury with a different technique, focusing on pain relief and
rehabilitation. Relying on knowledge and intuion instead of deep pressure, I would work with the client to assist the
healing process, encouraging movement and stretching so that mobiliity can be regained.
Do I have to be completely undressed for a massage?
No. You can wear all of your clothes or none of them, both are completely normal. There will always proffessional draping
and the client is always comfortable covered. Shiatsu and sports massage are wonderful techniques done over clothing.
